Embracing the Power of Data Science

Ania Forget-Dennieau

Hey there! As an account executive at 3THINKRS and a graduate data science student, I’ve learned so much along the way and I’m eager to share it all with you.

So, why am I passionate about data science?

Well, it all started during my undergraduate studies in biochemistry and biomedicine. I loved the scientific approach to problem-solving and how it can drive innovation.

But then, I got a taste of the power of data science when I started working at 3THINKRS. I saw how our tech clients’ software was being powered by machine learning and automation, and how data science was making an impact in PR and marketing, by providing data-driven insights. I was blown away!

So, I decided to dive deeper and learn all about data science and its potential to revolutionise industries.

My advice to women thinking of getting into STEM

For all the women out there thinking about studies or a career in STEM, let me tell you, it can be a bit challenging at times. But, don’t let that discourage you. Surround yourself with a supportive network, seek out mentorship opportunities, and continually challenge yourself to grow.

Believe in yourself and be brave. STEM is an incredibly satisfying discipline, and it’s important to be confident that your success in your chosen field is deserved and has been legitimately achieved as a result of your own efforts and skills. Don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t belong or that you can’t achieve your goals!

Women have made significant contributions to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for centuries, and there is so much more that can be accomplished.

The most exciting thing that I’ve learned so far!

I was blown away by the sheer power and potential of this field. From machine learning algorithms that can identify patterns and make predictions based on data, to the growing applications of these algorithms in various industries such as healthcare, finance, and marketing, there is so much to be excited about!

One of the most exciting things I’ve learned so far is the power of deep learning algorithms. These algorithms can analyse massive amounts of data and make predictions based on them, which is truly amazing. For example, home assistance devices that respond to your voice and know your preferences, or self-driving cars that can detect stop signs and traffic lights, are all powered by deep learning applications.

It’s amazing to think about the potential for AI to continuously improve real-life processes and drive innovation.

And finally, who inspires me?

There are so many amazing people in the field of data science, but one that stands out to me is Dr. Fei-Fei Li. She’s a computer scientist and AI researcher who has made significant contributions to the development of deep learning algorithms.

I admire her passion, using AI to make a positive impact in the world, as well as her commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM. She started the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory’s Outreach Summer Program (SAILORS) for female high school students, and this initiative has since evolved into AI4ALL, which aims to promote diversity in AI.

I’ll let Dr. Fei-Fei Li close this blog with her wise words on how AI is for everyone: “Women, underrepresented, racial minority, low-income family students and geographically diverse students. […] We’re seeing their leadership spreading. And I think they’re going to become a powerful force in A.I.’s future.”
